What is Life Coaching?
~Coaching is a structured, collaborative, client-centered, forward-looking, creative process designed to help a client set and achieve goals important to the client.
~I coach from the Core Competencies set forth by the International Coaching Federation.
How does Coaching Differ from Therapy?
~Coaching is not the same as therapy.
~Coaching is not a pathology-driven, medical or clinical process; therapy is a clinical process rooted in medical models of pathology.
~Coaches do not diagnose mental health conditions nor provide a clinical treatment plan; therapists work within a mental health diagnosis, and provide a clinical treatment plan based on a client’s diagnosis.
~Coaches do not bill insurance for services; many therapists bill insurance for services.
~Coaching does not focus on a client’s past to resolve current challenges; many therapy models focus on the past.
~Coaches work with present challenges and help the client move into the future with forward-looking goals; therapists tend to work on a past focus to help clients make sense of current challenges.
